Events Scheduled: College Football All-Star Bowl Games - 1/16-2/4

If you think that college football ends after the final seconds of the BCS National Championship Game (8:30pm ESPN) on January 9, 2012, you couldn't be more wrong. There is a whole host of all-star games pitting college seniors against each other for the benefit of NFL scouts and for our viewing pleasure. While these hard working college football players try to get that one last audition for the NFL, we can enjoy their playing one last time.

Actual Schedule: 2012 NHL All-Star Game - 1/29


  • TV: CBC, RDS, NBC Sports Network

  • Location: Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

  • Approximate Start Time: 4pm ET


The 59th National Hockey League All-Star Game will take place January 29, 2012 at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.This is the first time that Ottawa will have hosted the NHL All-Star Game.

The format for this year's game will be the same as last years "fantasy team" format. Fans pick the first six starters for each team, and the team captains will pick the other six players on each team.

Friday features the second NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft, in which the players will pick their teams. That event will be televised from 8-9:30 pm. On Saturday, the NHL All-Star Skills Competition will be broadcast from 7-9pm. There is also a "Fan Fest" and a "legends shinny game" on the Rideau Canal.

Actual Schedule: NFL Pro Bowl – 1/29

  • Location: Aloha Stadium, Honolulu, HI

The 2012 NFL Pro Bowl will once again pit all-star teams from the AFC and NFC against each other in Aloha Stadium, Honolulu, Hawaii. The Pro Bowl will take place a week before the Super Bowl for the third year in a row. The game will be broadcast on NBC at 8pm EST, but since the game is being played in Hawaii, which is 6 hours earlier, it will be broad daylight.

Events Scheduled: High School Football All-Star Bowl Games - 12/29-1/7

It's that time of year again. Time for high school seniors to place three hats on a table, throw two to the side, and announce their college selection at a press conference or on television. Yes, humble and magical indeed. If you want to watch some of the top football prospects compete one last time before going off to college, there are a few chances left to watch them.

The 16th annual Winter X Games will be in Aspen for the 11th consecutive year. ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC will have 16 hours of live coverage. The Winter X-Games features more than 200 of the world’s best athletes in the sports of Skiing, Snowboarding and Snowmobile.

      Event Scheduled: Betty White's 90th Birthday: A Tribute to America'sGolden Girl - 1/16

      • Approximate Start Time: 8-9:30 pm ET
      In a December interview with AOL TV, White said all she wanted for her birthday was, "Just to keep things going as they're going now. It's one of the highest spots of my life" however NBC will be giving her a birthday special as well. NBC will air a live birthday celebration for Betty White on Monday, January 16, 2012. The special is titled: "Betty White's 90th Birthday: A Tribute to America's Golden Girl" and will air the day before Ms. White's 90th birthday on January 17th. The dinner party style event will include Ms. White's co-stars from "Hot In Cleveland" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" in addition to several other of NBC's current leading ladies of comedy. The evening will also include several musical pieces.

      The evening will immediately be followed by a thirty minute sneak peak of Ms. White's new hidden comedy prank show titled "Betty White's Off Their Rockers." That show features Ms. White and other senior citizens pulling pranks on younger people.

      The 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) will once again present the Golden Globe Awards for the 69th time on January 15, 2012. Ricky Gervais will serve as host for the third time. The awards will be televised live on NBC from 8pm to 11pm EST.

      Tournament Schedule: 2012 Australian Open Tennis Tournament – 1/16-1/29

      The 2012 Australian Open not only is the first Grand Slam event of the year, but it is also the 100th edition of the Australian Open. The total prize money will be the richest in history with the singles champions taking home 2.2 million AUD. The reigning men’s singles champion is Novak Djokovic and the women’s singles champion is Kim Clijsters.

      The Australian Open runs from Sunday, January 16 to Saturday, January 28. It will be broadcast in the United States on ESPN2. Coverage begins Sunday, January 15 on ESPN2 at 6:30pm ET. The actual schedule of the Australian Open is below:

      The 38th annual People’s Choice Awards will be broadcast live on CBS at 9pm EST from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The host for this year's awards is Kaley Cuoco.

      The show has been held annually since 1975 and is voted on by the general public. And here is an interesting tidbit. The first 30 editions of the awards shows were determined by Gallup polls. Since 2005 however, the voting has been done via online polls.

      Actual Schedule: 2012 Allstate BCS College Football NationalChampionship Game - 1/9

      In a hotly anticipated rematch, the #1 ranked LSU Tigers will face the #2 Alabama Crimson Tide for the BCS College Football National Championship on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 8:30pm on ESPN. LSU defeated fellow SEC conference member Alabama 9-6 in overtime on November 5. Because both teams are from the SEC, it guarantees the SEC its sixth BCS championship in a row.

      The game will be played at the Superdome in New Orleans, which is the same venue as the Sugar Bowl.

      On its way to the BCS title game, LSU defeated the champions of two other BCS conferences. LSU defeated the Pac-12 champion Oregon Ducks 40-27 to start the season, and defeated Big East champion West Virginia Mountaineers 47-21 on September 24.
